How to Eat “Out”

Lately I’ve been eating out

No, I don’t mean restaurants, (well that too,) but I’ve been eating out of my gardens.

I drive my husband crazy because I’m taking over lots of different areas in my backyard.  What I love is watching those seedlings grow.  Right now I have pineapple, cilantro, mango, guanoabana, peppers, tomatoes, rosemary, and celery.  Not bad for a girl who grew up in the heart of New York City.

I’m no expert, but here are some thoughts on plantings.  Consider edging borders with lettuce, potatoes, parsley, peanuts, chilies, or peppers.  Chives are an easy garnish with pretty flowers.  Herbs are very tasty also, how about some rosemary, thyme, oregano, and chamomille.  All good for teas and flavorings.

If thinking about fruits, how about some fruit bearing trees like apricots, nectarines, peaches, pears, and apples.  From beautiful spring flowers, to fruit, and beautiful colors in the fall, they are sure to bring a smile. Of course, we’re not the only ones to enjoy our harvest, the critters love them too.  Try fennel, garlic, onion, chives, mint, lemongrass, basil and lavender to fend them off.  Well, time for me to go find another home for my seedlings.
